Financial Literacy Week is jointly organized by the Zagreb Faculty of Economics and Raiffeisen Pension Funds, and is held under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Croatia and the Ministry of Finance.

The goal of this year's Financial Literacy Week, in which Callidus also participated, is to encourage connection and financial empowerment of citizens, as well as to contribute to achieving progress in finding answers to numerous financial problems and challenges faced by individuals and families.

As parents of two teenage girls aged 16 and 18, Carmen and Miro Tariba presented tips on how to teach children about finances in 4 simple steps:

  1. Give the kids pocket money and let them manage the money without your supervision. It is very likely that the pocket money will "disappear" already during the first week.
  2. Show the children what income is, what expenses are, what are needs and what are wants agree together on a method of tracking costs.
  3. Stick to your expense tracking plan. Children will try to break the rules and will probably ask for extra money and resent it at first.
  4. Be persistent, talk to them and lead by example. Show them the family budget, talk about experiences, especially negative ones. Show that you are not perfect and let them learn from their own mistakes. And most importantly, be persistent.
