Are you wondering when and how to talk about finances with your children?
We offered the answer to these and many other questions through the EU Piggy Bank project. The goal of the project is to encourage children's financial literacy.
Awareness of the importance of financial literacy is growing, and almost everyone agrees that children should be taught from an early age about the value of money, that is, made aware of the fact that money does not "fall from the sky" for parents, but that it should be managed sensibly.
During a survey, Croatia was included in a group of countries with a disappointing result of children's financial literacy, lower than the average of OECD members. They are even domestic research confirmed that children and those under 18 have the lowest level of financial literacy. One of the ways to encourage financial literacy in children is precisely the project we recently completed with our foreign partners – Piggy Bank.
The project was designed with the aim of raising the level of financial literacy in all partner countries with an emphasis on helping families who need such knowledge. The purpose of the recently completed project is to make people financially literate, so that in the future as few families as possible will find themselves in unfavorable financial situations and thus directly threaten the existence of themselves and their families. For many adults, the issue of financial status is the source of all other problems they face, and in the long run these problems can result in bad family relations, break-ups of friendships and relationships, and in the most extreme cases even violence and suicides.
The target group of the project is not only adults with a lower level of financial literacy, but also children of various age groups in order to better prepare themselves for all the financial challenges and pitfalls they will encounter throughout their growing up and life. This project developed interactive educational materials intended for children, so that they can learn to manage money more easily and quickly. Through the materials, in several interesting exercises and tasks, parents can go over numerous topics about money with their children and bring them closer to the children through interesting topics.
Educational materials include the so-called escape room challenges, comics and video materials that will bring children and young people closer to the topic of financial literacy and more rational money management. Educational materials are available at Piggy Bank e-Learning platform.
